Aim: To enhance local arts, culture and heritage

Live Community Arts Experiences

The community conversation found that local people want more live performances to be held in Dalkeith especially music, singing, poetry, storytelling, comedy and sharing of community members’ talents.   People also wanted to learn about Dalkeith’s history and heritage through live and immersive events such as historical re-enactments.    They wanted more arts and crafts workshops and classes, with provision for the whole community.

Community engagement,
such as through community cafes

Throughout One Dalkeith’s provision of community cafés and ceilidh events there has been a clear and expressed desire for continuing opportunities for people to meet, share ideas and discuss possibilities for the community.   One Dalkeith will continue to provide events where local people can come up with ‘grassroots’ initiatives and where community groups can connect.
Suggestions for such initiatives have so far included: exhibiting and selling local art, selling local produce, helping people start new groups, and planning live performance events including a signature Dalkeith fair/gala/arts event.

A community website
promoting events, activities and groups

One Dalkeith will create a website for the promotion of Dalkeith’s existing and emerging events, activities and groups.   It will list local community facilities and how to book them to enable ease of establishing new groups and events.   One Dalkeith will continue to support conversation within the community on how to make booking easy and accessible.
